Majority of Brazilians support São Paulo governor as Bolsonaro’s successor in 2026

According to a recent survey conducted by Genial/Quaest, a significant majority of the market believes that former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL, right) should endorse the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans, right), if Bolsonaro is unable to run for the Presidency in 2026.

The survey, published on July 12, indicates that this sentiment has grown from 66% to 74% between May and July.

The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) had previously declared Bolsonaro ineligible until 2030 on June 30.

The study also reveals that Governor Romeu Zema (Novo) of Minas Gerais is the second choice, but his support has declined from 25% to 19% during the same period.

Meanwhile, support for Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), Bolsonaro’s son, has decreased from 3% to 0%.

The percentage of respondents who advocate for the former first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro, remains stable at 1%.

Additionally, 5% of the participants express no preference for any of the mentioned candidates.

The survey gathered data from 94 interviews conducted with investment funds in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro between July 6 and 10.

The sample comprised 47% managers, 31% economists, 14% traders, 5% analysts, and 3% individuals in other roles.
