Lula government opens lawsuit that may result in the suspension of Telegram in Brazil

The Lula Government (PT) has opened a process that may result in the suspension of Telegram in the country.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Justice and Public Safety, Flávio Dino, this Thursday afternoon (26).
According to him, the decision was taken because Telegram disregarded the deadline for platforms to manifest themselves on what mechanisms have been adopted to identify and moderate the circulation of illegal content.

The National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), linked to Minister Dino’s portfolio, opened the administrative process.
“This process can result in those sanctions, which are in the Consumer Defense Code, which are fines up to eventually suspension of activities in the national territory,” the minister said in a conversation with journalists.
The national secretary for Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Justice said Telegram was the only platform that did not respond to the federal government’s requests.
“Telegram traditionally is difficult to contact; it is difficult to dialogue.”
“It did not respond to the notification of the National Consumer Secretariat, so we will open an administrative sanctioning process concerning Telegram,” said Wadih Damous.
