Brazilian exports grew above the global average in 2022
By Artur Piva
Brazilian exports reached US$334 billion in 2022. The growth reached almost 20% over 2021.
At the same time, the sum of the invoicing of all the countries in the globe increased by a little more than 10%.
The data appear in the latest World Trade Organization (WTO) report, published on Wednesday, 5.
Brazilian revenue growth is the sixth highest in the WTO list of the 30 countries that profited most from exports in 2022.
Thus, the expansion exceeded China’s (7%), which has the highest foreign market revenues: US$ 3.6 trillion.
Besides this, the Brazilian increase was better than that of the United States (+18%), Canada (+18%), United Kingdom (+13%), Germany (+1%), and Japan (which registered a 1% decrease).
Ahead of Brazil, only: Norway (+56%), Saudi Arabia (+49%), United Arab Emirates (+41%), Indonesia (+26%), and Australia (+20%).
BRAZILIAN EXPORTS IN 2022
Of the US$334 billion that Brazil made from exports in 2022, about US$160 billion came from agribusiness.
That is: the sector accounts for almost half of the country’s revenues with the foreign market.
Of the amount generated by agribusiness, US$75 billion came from shipments of fresh agricultural products, such as soybeans.
The rest came from the transformation industry generated by the products of the field.
In agribusiness, this segment extends to food, clothing, and even the cellulose used in paper production.
As a whole, the transformation industry brought US$180 million to Brazil with sales to foreign markets.
The range of goods extends beyond those produced from raw materials on the farm.
The sector involves, among other things, the marketing of machinery, equipment, and metal alloys, which are manufactured from the extractive industry (which accounted for US$76 billion of Brazil’s export revenues in 2022).
