Brazil supports inclusion of Russia in G7 advisors meeting on Ukraine conflict

The Brazilian government has expressed its positive evaluation of the meeting of advisors from the Group of Seven (G7) countries, which convened to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The meeting on Saturday (24) was seen as a significant multilateral effort to address peace initiatives.

Representing Brazil at the meeting was Celso Amorim, the Special Advisor to the Presidency and former Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In addition to the G7 countries (Germany, Canada, United States, France, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom) and Brazil, the meeting included representatives from India, South Africa, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has been a staunch advocate for finding alternative paths to end the war, and the discussion on exploring such alternatives was emphasized during the meeting.

Brazil has expressed criticism over the absence of Russia in the dialogue.

According to the Palácio do Planalto, the resolution of the conflict, initiated by Russia against Ukraine, depends on the active participation of Russia.

President Lula has proposed the formation of a peace club comprising neutral countries to engage in diplomatic negotiations for resolving the conflict.

During a press conference in France, Lula reiterated his stance on the issue, mentioning the efforts of various individuals and countries in pursuit of peace.

He expressed hope that the United States would also join the quest for peace, which would facilitate the peace-building process.
