Ibovespa, the main index of the Stock Exchange of Brazil (B3), had a performance below expectations on Monday, 24: a fall of 0.4% to 103,000 points.
The dollar also registered negative numbers and ended the first trading session of the week in a fall.
The stock market’s poor performance was caused by the fall in the price of shares in the mining sector.
This is because there was a decrease in the price of iron ore in China, which slowed down its demand for the product in the foreign market – yesterday, the commodity reached its lowest price in more than five months.
Ambev’s share price caused another blow to Ibovespa.
The Brazilian beverage company dropped almost 2% due to the disclosure of the financial results of one of its main competitors, Heineken, which advanced about 20% in Brazil.
The dollar even operated at a high in the morning. However, it ended Monday down 0.3%, quoted at R$5.04.
The US currency followed the performance of the stock markets in the United States.
Financial agents considered the dollar’s performance stable, despite the negative numbers.
