Argentina’s energy exports to Brazil are the highest in 10 years
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Argentine ambassador in Brazil, Daniel Scioli, and the National Secretary of Energy, Darío Martinez, held a working meeting yesterday to articulate actions within the framework of the development of the gas.Ar Plan launched by President Alberto Fernández.
This month, based on indicators from the Brazilian Ministry of Economy, it was revealed that Argentine energy exports to Brazil have exceeded US$1.3 billion so far in 2021, a record in the last decade, led by electricity and gas.
Thus, Argentina went from eighth to third place among Brazil’s most significant energy suppliers, and, likely, will soon be the second Brazilian supplier of energy products. Energy exports represent 12% of total exports to Brazil and are in surplus.

To continue expanding energy exports to the neighboring country, Argentina must expand the network of gas pipelines that transport gas from Vaca Muerta.
For this reason, the Government has started the bidding process for the mega project that will allow increasing the transportation capacity and exporting more gas and electric energy.
This is the construction of the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline and the Transport.Ar Producción Nacional gas pipeline system will increase the transportation capacity of the national gas pipeline system, boost the ability to export gas to neighboring countries, and generate more significant fiscal and foreign currency savings per year.
Both the Brazilian Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Alburquerque, have expressed to Scioli and the Argentine authorities their full support for the energy integration project between the two countries.
Brazil is planning the construction of a 570-kilometer gas pipeline between Uruguaiana and Porto Alegre, involving an investment of approximately US$600 million of private investment.
