Argentines prefer Jair Bolsonaro to win Brazilian election in 2022 -poll
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Argentines, who themselves have a left-wing government in Alberto Fernandez, do not want Brazil to have the same fate.
A nationwide poll has found that most Argentines favor conservative Jair Bolsonaro for re-election as Brazil’s president in the upcoming Oct. 2 elections.
Former leftist President Lula da Silva, on the other hand, is in second place, contrary to what Brazilian pollsters say, who see him as the winner of the first round.
This was announced by political communications consultancy Solmoirago in a poll conducted between January 24 and 29, which surveyed 2,050 people with a margin of error of +/- 2.16%.

BOLSONARO AHEAD OF LULA DA SILVA
When asked, “This year Brazil will elect a new president. Who would you prefer in the election?”, most respondents chose Bolsonaro, with 33.5%. The second most popular choice was Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Worker’s Party (PT) leader who was convicted and then released for money laundering and passive corruption, with 28.4%.
In third place was “No opinion” with 20.8%, followed by “Other” with 13.2%. Meanwhile, 4.1% of respondents said that the results of the Brazilian elections “are not important for Argentina.”
In an interview with PERFIL, Cristian Solmoirago, director of the consulting firm, explained that the data collected show that Argentines’ preferences are “practically divided into thirds.”
Moreover, he stressed, “It is striking that for the vast majority of Argentines it is very important who will govern Brazil.”
DATA FROM BRAZIL ARE DIFFERENT
If the elections were held today, Lula would receive 42% of the vote compared to 28% for Bolsonaro, according to a poll published in late January by Brazil’s PoderData.
It also says that if a second round were held, Lula would defeat the incumbent with 54% to 32% of the vote.
Another study by consulting firm Genial-Quaest shows the former president leading in first-round voting intentions with 45%.
According to the report, Bolsonaro remains at 23%, followed by former Lava Jato judge Sergio Moro and Ciro Gomes at 7% each.
