Alliance at Sea: Brazil and France’s Joint Military Maneuvers

From April 14th to 20th, the Brazilian and French armed forces will unite for the ‘Jeanne d’Arc 2024’ exercise, showcasing their military prowess and commitment to international cooperation.

Maritime drills near Rio-Mangaratiba aim to boost naval power and refine security tactics through meticulous planning.

Exercise divided into two phases: maritime phase (April 14-16) focuses on complex amphibious raids, especially near Marambaia Island Training Center.

The second phase, the port phase, runs from April 17th to 20th, focusing on operations and logistics onshore.

This joint operation underscores a significant effort to strengthen interoperability and foster diplomatic ties between Brazil and France.

Through amphibious raids and maritime control, the exercise projects naval power and fosters mutual understanding of operational tactics.

Participation in this mission is robust, with notable assets from both nations.

Brazil deploys key naval and air units, including the multipurpose aircraft carrier Atlântico and the Liberal Frigate, along with the Marambaia General Cargo Landing Ship.

In addition, these units are supported by air power from UH-12 Esquilo, UH-15 Super Cougar, and SH-16 Seahawk helicopters.

France provides Tonnerre, Guépratte, Gazelle, Dauphin helicopters, and specialized amphibious troops for military operations.

In total, ‘Jeanne d’Arc 2024’ will see the participation of around 2,250 military personnel, with 1,460 from the Brazilian Navy and 790 from the French Armed Forces.

The exercise showcases capabilities and readiness, bolstering the strategic military alliance between Brazil and France.

In short, collaboration demonstrates shared goals of securing peace and stability in their regions and globally.
