River Plate and Boca Juniors Pursue Global Success at Expanded 2025 Club World Cup

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, as officially scheduled by FIFA, will take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13. This tournament features a new format with 32 teams, making it the largest Club World Cup to date.

River Plate and Boca Juniors, Argentina’s most prominent football clubs, will represent their country in this expanded competition. Both clubs earned their spots based on their performance in South America’s club rankings over the past four years.

River Plate’s group includes Inter Milan, Monterrey, and Urawa Red Diamonds. Their first match will be against Urawa Red Diamonds on June 17 in Seattle.

Boca Juniors, meanwhile, will play in a group with Bayern Munich, Benfica, and Auckland City, starting their campaign on June 16 in Miami against Benfica.

A major off-field story involves Franco Mastantuono, a 17-year-old River Plate midfielder. Real Madrid has agreed to pay River Plate a transfer fee of 45 million euros, split into several installments, for Mastantuono.
