Rio de Janeiro Daily Brief for Friday, June 5, 2026
Friday June 5 is the ponto facultativo that completes the Corpus Christi feriadão — federal public servants are off, banks and the INSS are closed, and B3 does not trade for a second consecutive day. The full museum circuit is open: CCBB Rio from 9h, MAR from 10h, MAM Rio from 11h.
Friday opens at 22°C with 35% rain — the last shower day of the feriadão. Saturday clears to 23°C and 10% rain, Sunday to 25°C and 10%, Monday to an extraordinary 25°C and just 5%.
Tonight: Pedra do Sal roda from 20h — Friday is one of its three weekly nights. Tomorrow Saturday: MAR free + Brazil x Egypt in Cleveland, the last World Cup warmup.
The Ibovespa enters the four-day pause at 170,330 points after Wednesday’s 2.22% fall. B3 reopens Monday June 8 with the US tariff proposal on Brazilian imports and the Iran situation as the two unresolved structural pressures.
This is part of The Rio Times’ daily São Paulo/Rio de Janeiro daily guide coverage for expats and the international community.

03What to See & DoCULTURE
CCBB Amano and MAR on the last rainy day of the feriadão — the full Centro circuit from 9h
Friday is the ideal day to clear the Centro museum circuit before the weekend opens for outdoor Rio — 35% rain today, 10% tomorrow, so the calculus is plain. The CCBB Rio at R. Primeiro de Março 66 opens from 9h, free as always, with the Yoshitaka Amano retrospective Além da Fantasia in the 1889 Banco do Brasil atrium — the same show running through July 7, but Friday mornings on a long weekend are among the quietest and most uncrowded sessions of the entire CCBB calendar, when the city splits between those who have already left for the coast and those who have not yet started their day.
From the CCBB, the waterfront walk along the port promenade to MAR at Praça Mauá 5 takes ten minutes — No Martins’ Sortilégios de desvio runs through September 20 (free tomorrow Saturday; R$20 today). The Museu do Amanhã at Praça Mauá 1 (R$30) and the Real Gabinete Português de Leitura at R. Luís de Camões 30 (free, open Mon–Fri 9h–17h) complete the morning arc.
After the circuit: Confeitaria Colombo at R. Gonçalves Dias 32, R$78, the belle-époque room for the Friday feriadão lunch. CCBB Rio · free · 9h–20h · R. Primeiro de Março 66 · MAR · R$20, free Saturdays · 10h–17h · Praça Mauá 5.
Oiticica and Valentim at MAM Rio — last paid day before Sunday’s free entry
MAM Rio at Av. Infante Dom Henrique 85 runs Friday–Sunday 11h–19h, R$14 (free Sundays). Today is the last paid day before Sunday’s free entry — if you haven’t seen the Hélio Oiticica Parangolés and Bólides alongside the Rubem Valentim retrospective, today makes the stronger argument for going rather than waiting for the Sunday crowd that the free entry will generate.
Oiticica’s Parangolés are designed to be worn and moved in — participatory textile works that challenged every convention of the static art object when they were first shown in 1964. The Valentim retrospective in the same pavilion puts the two artists in productive dialogue across several rooms of the 1960s modernist building. Route from Centro: VLT Cinelândia → Metrô Linha 1 to Flamengo → ten minutes through Parque do Flamengo. MAM Rio · R$14, free Sundays · Tue–Sun 11h–19h · Av. Infante Dom Henrique 85.
Pedra do Sal Friday roda, Lapa at full feriadão capacity, Rio Scenarium and Carioca da Gema
Pedra do Sal at Largo João da Baiana, Saúde, runs the free Friday roda from 20h — one of its three weekly nights. On a long-weekend Friday with many people still in the city, the historic quilombo square will be at its most charged; with 35% rain forecast, check conditions before heading out from the Praça Mauá VLT stop, as the roda moves to nearby bars when rain is heavy.
Carioca da Gema at R. Mem de Sá 79 runs the Friday roda from 20h, R$45–55 — the sheltered samba reference, at its strongest on a long-weekend Friday. Rio Scenarium at R. do Lavradio 20 runs the full Friday programme from 19h30, R$50–60, the three-storey antiques house at its weekend-eve peak.
Blue Note Rio at Av. Borges de Medeiros 1424, Lagoa, runs the Friday headline, R$80–100. Nova Capela at Av. Mem de Sá 96, Lapa, open until 4h — the post-roda late-night anchor for the feriadão Friday crowd.
MAM Rio R$14 today, free Sunday, Tue–Sun 11h–19h, Av. Infante Dom Henrique 85 · Museu do Amanhã Tue–Sun 9h–18h, R$30, Praça Mauá 1 · MNBA Tue–Sun 10h–18h, free, Av. Rio Branco 199 · Jardim Botânico daily 8h–17h, R$30 · Pão de Açúcar daily 8h–21h, R$185/R$92 meia · Parque Lage daily, free. Sat June 6: MAR free. Sun June 7: MAM Rio free, Lagoa car-free, Pedda do Sal roda. Mon June 8: most venues closed (Monday closures). CCBB open Mon.
04Getting AroundTRANSPORT
Rodízio is not in force today. MetrôRio runs on a reduced timetable similar to the Saturday service on Linhas 1, 2 and 4; the VLT Carioca runs holiday/ponto facultativo service. Praça XV ferry to Niterói on reduced timetable.
Road note: return traffic from the holiday weekend peaks on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning — the Presidente Dutra and Rodovia Litorânea are the main congestion points for those coming back from the coast or interior. Santos Dumont (SDU) on standard domestic timetable throughout the feriadão.
05Where to EatFOOD
Post-CCBB lunch: Confeitaria Colombo at R. Gonçalves Dias 32, R$78, the belle-époque room open on the ponto facultativo. Bar Urca at R. Cândido Gaffrée 205 for the seawall pé-sujo — the covered terrace holds well in the 35% rain.
Friday dinner: Lasai (Rafa Costa e Silva, R$420) is open Fridays — booking essential, R. Relator Laurindo 7, Botafogo. Aprazível at R. Aprazível 62, Santa Teresa, from 19h for the pre-Lapa dinner. CT Boucherie (Claude Troisgros, R$380) at R. Dias Ferreira 636, Leblon; Nova Capela, Lapa, open until 4h for the late-night close.
06Practical InfoESSENTIALS

07Community & LifestyleEXPAT LIFE
Friday June 5 is the quiet day of the feriadão — the city is divided between those who have left for the weekend and those building toward Lapa tonight. The CCBB, MAR and MAM Rio are all open; the Pão de Açúcar and Jardim Botânico are both available for those who want an outdoor morning despite the 35% rain.
For expats: private-sector employers are not legally required to grant the ponto facultativo — check with your company. The Aliança Francesa at R. Muniz Barreto 730, Botafogo, typically runs reduced programming on the ponto facultativo; confirm events in advance.

One day to the last World Cup warmup — Brazil x Egypt Saturday in Cleveland
No fixtures today. Brazil’s final warmup against Egypt is tomorrow Saturday June 6 in Cleveland — the last match before Group C opens on June 14. Neymar is expected to miss again with his grade 2 calf injury; the squad is in the USA preparing.
World Cup Group C schedule: Morocco on June 14 in New Jersey (19h BRT), Haiti on June 18 in Philadelphia (21h30 BRT), Scotland on June 22. The World Cup opens on June 11 in Los Angeles.
09Business & MarketsFINANCE
B3 does not trade today — the ponto facultativo extends the Corpus Christi market pause to four consecutive non-trading days (Wednesday’s close at 170,330 being the last live price). Markets reopen Monday June 8, carrying a fragile technical picture: the YTD gain stands at 5.71% and the month-to-date at -1.99% following Wednesday’s 2.22% fall.
Two unresolved pressures enter the long weekend with the market. The first is the US tariff proposal on Brazilian imports — the USTR proposed a 25% additional tariff on Brazilian goods, citing trade barriers; the Brazilian government viewed it as a political move amid ongoing negotiations, and early market analysis suggested limited real-economy impact. The second is the US-Iran escalation, which has driven oil higher and the real lower throughout the week.
The Selic holds at 14.75%; the June 17–18 Copom is the month’s key rate event. Petrobras (PETR4) enters the weekend as an oil-price beneficiary; Vale (VALE3) and the major banks are the names to watch on the Monday open.
