The initiative gained approval with 66 votes in favor from Peruvian legislators.

According to the approved document on June 22, the US military personnel will be staying in Peru for 16 days, conducting activities at the Iquitos Naval Base from June 24 to July 9.

The authorized list of special equipment includes various rifles such as the M27, M4, M4A1, M110, and M18 pistol, as well as two M320 grenade launchers.

The purpose of this exchange, as stated in the approved law, is to enhance military capabilities and support the strategic roles of the Peruvian Armed Forces.

It aims to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge regarding new techniques, tactics, and procedures.

Earlier on May 19, the Peruvian Congress had already granted authorization for the entry of US Armed Forces elements to provide cooperation and training for Peru’s military and police.

These activities are planned to take place in several regions across the country, including Lima, Callao, Loreto, San Martin, Huanuco, Ucayali, Pasco, Junin, Huancavelica, Cusco, Ayacucho, Iquitos, Pucusana, and Apurimac.
