Copa do Brasil 2024: Schedule and Teams Announced

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has unveiled the Copa do Brasil 2024 schedule, featuring 92 clubs.

According to the CBF, twelve clubs will enter the third phase directly, enhancing the tournament’s competitiveness.

In the first phase, single-leg matches will occur, with lower-ranked teams hosting the games.

This format requires the visiting teams to draw for advancement, while home teams must secure a win.

The competition kicks off on February 21, and subsequent rounds will follow a similar single-leg format.

If matches end in a draw, penalty shootouts will determine the winners. This structure is designed to provide equal opportunities for all participating teams and intensify the competition.

The third phase will see prominent teams like Palmeiras and Flamengo join, with match pairings decided through a draw.

These additions will bring more excitement and unpredictability to the tournament.

From round 16 onwards, draws will also determine match-ups, with a bracket format adopted from the quarterfinals.

This change aims to maintain fairness and excitement throughout the tournament.

Notably, traditional clubs such as Santos and Chapecoense will not participate due to new qualification criteria.

Their absence may impact the tournament’s dynamics and fan interest.

The tournament’s financial aspect is also significant, with the CBF increasing prize money in 2023.

Rewards vary based on club tiers, offering substantial financial incentives for progression.

This structure encourages clubs to perform their best, enhancing the overall quality of the tournament.
