São Paulo: when will the Barra Funda to Guarulhos Airport Express start operating?
According to the government, the Palmeiras-Barra Funda Station should receive two lines of trains from the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) until 2024.
As of the second half of this year, the terminal, in the west zone of São Paulo, will be a stop for the train line to the Guarulhos International Airport in the metropolitan region.
CPTM’s Line 13-Jade will expand its service, and the compositions that provide the Airport Express service will arrive on one of the platforms at Palmeiras-Barra Funda station.

With this, according to the São Paulo government, it will be possible to go from there to the Airport-Guarulhos Station, making a connection at Luz Station, through which the Lines 10-Turquoise, 11-Coral, 12-Safira, as well as Line 1-Blue and Line 4-Yellow of the subway also pass.
The fare for the Expresso Aeroporto is R$4.40, similar to the other lines in the network.
Launched in October 2018, the service makes it possible to reach the Guarulhos Airport Station in 35 minutes, with daily departures every hour, starting at 5 am, in both directions.
During the week, the trip saves passengers about 20 minutes compared to the route taken by car.
In the second half of 2024, passengers should also be able to count on the arrival of the Linha 11-Coral at Palmeiras-Barra Funda Station, which should shorten the distance between the Alto Tietê region – composed of the cities surrounding the source of the Tietê River, such as Arujá, Mogi das Cruzes and Poá – and the west zone of the city of São Paulo.
“The extension of the line may decrease demand at Luz Station and provide passengers with an alternative arrival to Luz and Brás Stations after the concession of Line 7-Rubi to the private initiative,” the government said in a statement.
On the 13-Jade Line, the works are focused on adapting the permanent track (rails) and the aerial network to receive the 2500 Series trains and signaling adaptations between Luz and Palmeiras-Barra Funda stations.
“The tests have already begun so that we can have more information about the adjustments that need to be made so that this model can reach its new destination quickly and, above all, safely,” says Pedro Moro, president of CPTM.
On the 11-Coral Line, the work is concentrated on the aerial network, permanent track and signaling, and constructing a new power substation between Luz and Palmeiras-Barra Funda to expand the line.
“The substation will ensure the distribution of energy to power the compositions, following the increase in circulation on the stretch that currently receives Service 710, which allows trips between Lines 7-Rubi and 10-Turquesa without the need for a transfer at Brás Station,” the government also said in a statement.
In August 2021, CPTM announced that Line 13-Jade would reach Palmeiras-Barra Funda Station.
The R$158 million contract includes the executive project, supply, and implementation of the systems.
