New air connections between the Dominican Republic and several countries are expanded

The Dominican Republic’s Civil Aviation Board (JAC) announced new flights between the country and several nations, including the US, France, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, and Trinidad and Tobago.

JAC President José Ernesto Marte Piantini revealed this during a session, emphasizing increased connectivity starting in the middle of the month.

Low-cost airline Arajet requested permission to operate 54 flights on the Santo Domingo/Santiago/Medellin/Santiago/Santo Domingo route, scheduled from July 17 to January 18, with two flights per week on Mondays and Thursdays.

Sky High Aviation also sought approval for 317 flights on various routes, including Santiago/Providence/Santiago, Santiago/Miami/Santiago, Santiago/Panama City/Santiago, and Santo Domingo/Trinidad and Tobago/Santo Domingo.

These flights will operate from August 13 to February 13 under special permission.

Foreign airlines, such as Turpial, Laser, and Air Caraibes, have expressed interest in operating in the Dominican Republic.

Turpial Airlines requested 51 flights on the Valencia (Venezuela)/Punta Cana/Valencia route from July to January.

Laser sought permission for 154 roundtrip flights on the Caracas/La Romana/Caracas route between July and mid-September.

Air Caraibes intends to operate 8 flights on the Paris/Port-au-Prince/Punta Cana/Paris route from July 18 to September 5 on Tuesdays.

Marte Piantini highlighted these approved special flights as opportunities for airlines to explore new routes and promote the Dominican Republic as a desirable Caribbean destination.

The country’s commercial aviation sector has experienced significant growth this year.

Notably, flights under the special permit category saw a remarkable 74% increase in 2022 compared to the previous year, totaling 3,730 operations.
