Arajet expands in South America: new flights and ambitious goals amid regional competition

Starting October 30th, the Caribbean budget airline, Arajet, will introduce flights from the Dominican Republic to Chile, with a layover in Colombia.

The route will originate from Santo Domingo (SDQ) and conclude in Santiago (SCL), making a stop in Bogota (BOG).

Operating with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, this twice-a-week flight marks Arajet’s second route within South America and its inaugural venture into the continent’s domestic market.

Arajet will face competition from established carriers like Latam Airlines, Avianca, and SKY Airline, which currently operate nearly 40 weekly flights between these South American capitals.

Moreover, in May, Arajet’s reservation system hinted at potential flights starting in September from Santo Domingo to São Paulo, Brazil, aiming to reinstate a route paused since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Backed by substantial investment from a private U.S. firm, Arajet, a Dominican budget airline, seeks to capture a larger share in the competitive low-cost segment across Latin America.

The airline’s establishment was the result of nearly a decade of effort by Dominican entrepreneur Víctor Pacheco Méndez.
