Brazil’s Bolsonaro enacts law releasing US$53 million for Gas Aid in 2021

RIO DE JANERIO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro on Wednesday, December 22, enacted the bill that allocates R$300 (US$53) million to the Ministry of Citizenship in special credit for the implementation of the “Auxílio Gás” (Gas Aid) in December 2021, reported the secretary general of the Presidency.

From 2022, the program’s resources are included in the budget. The bill passed by Congress on Tuesday, December 21, foresees the allocation of R$1.9 billion to the benefit next year.

The Gas Aid will be granted every 2 months, for a 5-year period, and amounts to at least 50% of the average national reference price of the 13-kilogram cooking gas cylinder.

According to the Planalto Palace, the program will benefit at least 5 million low-income families. The government’s plan is to gradually extend the list of beneficiaries next year.
