Three new studies say humans are not the cause of global warming

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Three studies have found that natural phenomena, not human activity, are responsible for global warming. The published papers show that events in the atmosphere and oceans are responsible for a temperature rise.

The role of humans in global warming appears to be minimal and is causing temperatures to drop.

In June, a study published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters cited Earth’s energy imbalance (EEI) as a cause of global warming.

“The EEI is a relatively small difference between the absorbed global mean solar radiation and the thermal infrared radiation emitted to space,” the study said.

It also found that most of the EEI warms the ocean, while the rest warms the land, melts ice, and warms the atmosphere.

The study’s authors write that they found “statistically indistinguishable decadal EEI increases from mid-2005 to mid-2019.”

They attribute this primarily to “an increase in absorbed solar radiation associated with a decrease in cloud reflectance.”

The study points to another natural phenomenon, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), “a large-scale climate pattern associated with significant changes in sea surface temperatures and cloud cover.”

According to the authors, the PDO transitioned into a warm phase from about 2014 to 2020.

This change resulted in fewer clouds covering the ocean, allowing more solar radiation to be absorbed. “If the PDO were to reverse in the future, this would likely lead to a reduction in heat absorption,” they write.

The study’s lead author, Norman Loeb, said, “The two very independent views of changes in the Earth’s energy balance agree very well. They both show this powerful trend, which makes us very confident that it’s a real phenomenon and not just an instrumental artifact.”

In a paper for NoTricksZone, author Kenneth Richard commented on Loeb and colleagues’ study.

According to data from the Cloud and Earth Radiant Energy System (CERES), both clouds and the Earth’s surface are responsible for 89% of global warming, he said. “Greenhouse gases,” on the other hand, are responsible for only “a small fraction” of that warming.

Another study by two German researchers also refuted the alleged role of humans in so-called global warming.

Earlier this month, a study was published in the journal Atmosphere claiming that human-caused emissions could lead to a drop in global temperatures.

The study’s authors point to research by Loeb and colleagues that blames the higher temperatures on “a reduction in low-level cloud cover.” “We compared clear skies with cloudy areas and found that changes in cloud structure should be the main cause,” the German researchers write.

They add that their conclusions, based on CERES data, “contradict the assumption that further global warming is mainly caused by trapping of [longwave] radiation by ‘greenhouse gases.'”

Richard commented on the study as follows: “The impact of the ‘greenhouse effect’ has indeed been negative; it has contributed to net cooling over the past two decades.”

In July, a study by scientist Antero Ollilia of Finland’s Aalto University was published in the Current Journal of Applied Science and Technology. Ollilia’s paper states that from 2000 to 2019, “there are natural climate drivers that have rapid and significant temperature impacts that exceed anthropogenic drivers.” Anthropogenic refers to pollutants that come from human activities.

The Finnish researcher’s study states that the warming observed since 2015 “cannot be attributed to anthropogenic causes.”
