Amazon Closes Deal to Include Disney Movies and Series on Prime Video in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Disney+ streaming service is not expected to come to Brazil anytime soon, but it will eventually be possible to enjoy the films and series of Mickey Mouse’s owner on Prime Video.

Amazon announced on Tuesday, September 1st, that it has signed a content licensing agreement with Disney for one year, valid for all of Latin America.

Movies that are leaving its collection or that have not featured on other streaming platforms will be available on Amazon Prime Video.

This includes recent Marvel productions such as Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, as well as Pixar animations such as Toy Story 4, which debuted in theaters just over three months ago.

Amazon highlighted the following films and series as Prime Video releases in Latin America:

The latest box-office hits from Marvel’s film universe, such as Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, as well as films from other stages of the Marvel universe, such as Iron Man, Thor: The Dark World, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Live-action versions of famous animations such as The Lion King, The Return of Mary Poppins, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Beauty and the Beast, Maleficent and its sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Epic animated films such as Ralph Breaks the Internet, Big Hero 6, Tangled, Toy Story 1, 2, 3 and 4, Zootopia and Moana, and classics such as The Princess and the Frog and Lilo & Stitch.

All seasons of successful series such as Grey’s Anatomy, The Walking Dead, American Horror Story and How I Met Your Mother.

Productions will begin to be released on Tuesday, October 1sr, until September 2020. Watching the content on any Prime Video compatible smartphone, tablet or TV will be possible, as well as downloading the films and series for offline playback.

This is yet another important chapter in the war among streaming services, which is primarily expected to affect market leader Netflix. Although it has surpassed the mark of ten million users in Brazil, more than any pay-TV operator, Netflix has been under pressure from all quarters.

Apple TV+ is coming in November, and there is competition with Fox Premium, HBO Go and Telecine Play in the country.

In addition, competitors charge less than the R$21.90 of the basic plan with Netflix SD resolution: Apple TV+ will cost R$9.90 per month, the same price as Amazon Prime, which includes, in addition to the video platform, benefits such as free delivery throughout the country without a minimum purchase value, Twitch Prime, music streaming service and access to eBooks and Prime Reading magazines.
