Venezuelan President and Russian Foreign Minister meet in Caracas

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro received the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday night, with whom he held a meeting to address various strategic and bilateral interest issues.

Lavrov was received by Maduro at the Miraflores Palace, the seat of the Government, after holding, hours before, a couple of fruitful meetings: first with his Venezuelan counterpart, Yván Gil, and then with the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez.

Venezuelan state television reported that Maduro and Lavrov discussed relevant issues of the international agenda and different matters of strategic interest for both nations.

Earlier, Lavrov considered Venezuela “one of Russia’s most reliable partners”, adding that both countries are united by “friendly relations and also by the similarities in our positions, the sympathy between our peoples”.

The Russian Foreign Minister assured that bilateral relations “have gone through several tests, crises, pressures, but our ties, despite everything, will continue to develop”.

With Lavrov’s visit to Caracas, both parties have reviewed their agreements on energy, agriculture, education, transportation, air and maritime interconnection, and technical and military cooperation to continue advancing their collaboration.

Sergei Lavrov is on a working tour of Latin American countries, including Brazil, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba. He will develop his agenda in the region until April 21.
