Uruguay surpasses pre-pandemic figures in foreign tourists

Uruguay received 1,219,198 foreign tourists in the first quarter of 2023, 11.6 percent more than in 2019, the Ministry of Tourism reported yesterday.

"This figure leaves us very happy. We see a recovery process, which is confirmed," said Tourism Minister Tabaré Viera at the public presentation of the report with the data, held in Montevideo.

In the first quarter of 2019, the country attracted 1,092,016 visitors, while in the same period of 2020, when the pandemic of the new coronavirus broke out, there were 1,000,908 tourists.
