At least two dead amid new riots in Peru

Authorities in Peru have announced the death of two people in recent hours in clashes between protesters and security forces amid ongoing protests in the country against President Dina Boluarte.

The last person to lose his life is a man whose body is found in the Plaza de Armas of the city of Puno, in the south of the country, as confirmed by the director of the Puno Health Network, Iván Fernández Mamani, in declarations to the radio station RPP.

The other victim, a 51-year-old woman, died after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest with no possibility of being attended by medical teams in time, as she was traveling on a public transport bus that could not move due to the blockades that had occurred during the protests in the department of La Libertad, in northwestern Peru.

The road blockades have also caused a pregnant teenager on her way to Viru to lose her 28-week-old baby, as confirmed by La Gerencia Regional de Salud (Geresa) de La Libertad.

Numerous passengers have been stranded on the Panamericana Norte and forced to cook in the middle of the road with ordinary cooking pots.
