Colombian Prosecutor’s Office suspends all arrest warrants against ELN leader

The Colombian Prosecutor General’s Office announced the suspension of all arrest warrants against Eliécer Herlinto Chamorro Acosta, alias ‘Antonio García’, the top commander of the National Liberation Army (ELN) and its representative in the dialogue with the Government.

“This decision responds to the provisions of Resolution 140 of June 1, 2023, in which the President of the Republic recognized Mr. Chamorro Acosta as the ELN’s representative at the Dialogue Table with the National Government,” says a press release issued on the evening of June 5.

The note adds that “the suspension of the arrest warrants was communicated to the national and international authorities, through Interpol, so that it can be complied with”.

Last May 17, Petro’s Government and the ELN announced the resumption of peace negotiations after the pause requested by the guerrillas following statements by the Colombian president, suggesting links of the armed group with drug trafficking.

The third cycle of negotiations, which is taking place in Havana, Cuba, will conclude on June 8.
