Covid-19: Chilean government relaxes sanitary restrictions in Santiago
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – As of December 8, Chile’s Metropolitan Region, which includes Santiago and surrounding rural communes, will move from step 3 to step 4 in the partial deconfinement plan implemented by the government given the improvement in the Covid-19 figures, announced the Ministry of Health.
The Undersecretary of Public Health, Alberto Dougnac, explained in a press conference that the measure is due to a downward trend in new cases detected in the last weeks and to the progress of the mass vaccination process.

The positivity rate of the PCR tests delivered on December 6 reached 2.39%, the lowest recorded since October of this year.

The main change from step 3 to step 4 is the increase in the capacity in closed places and public events, for example, the maximum number of people allowed in private residences increases from 25 to 50, and in areas with public present increases from one person every six square meters to one person every four square meters.
The maximum permitted capacity for gyms, museums, restaurants, cafes, soda fountains, and mass activities will also increase.
Some 14.2 million people have already received their first dose of one of the available vaccines, 13.8 million have completed the immunization cycle, and 8.9 million have booster doses.
