OAS sends technical team to Guatemala after election results suspended

The Organization of American States (OAS) has announced the deployment of its electoral mission to Guatemala in response to the country’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) decision not to declare the results of the June 25 elections officially.

The OAS emphasizes respecting the people’s will as expressed through the electoral process.

In a statement, the OAS explains that the mission’s return is prompted by a recent resolution from the Constitutional Court, which mandates the suspension of post allocations and reevaluating scrutiny proceedings in the Departmental Electoral Boards (JED).

This additional review was not originally scheduled in the electoral calendar.

By redeploying its electoral mission, the OAS aims to observe and oversee the second review process as agreed upon with the TSE, further ensuring transparency and credibility in the electoral proceedings.
