Argentina strengthens China relations with new consulate in Chengdu

Argentina is set to open a new consulate general in Chengdu, a central city in China.

This decision aims to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations and address the increasing needs of Argentine citizens in the area, as stated by the Argentine Embassy in China.

The upcoming consulate will serve several regions, including the central provinces of Sichuan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, the southern province of Yunnan, and the municipality of Chongqing.

Collectively, these regions encompass over 300 million people.

Upon its establishment, this consulate will become the fourth Argentine consulate in China.

Other Argentine consulates are already functional in Shanghai, Canton, and the special administrative region of Hong Kong.

This move is indicative of the evolving relationship between Argentina and China, a bond that has strengthened since becoming strategic partners in 2004 and comprehensive strategic partners in 2014.

China holds the position of Argentina’s second-largest trade ally, primarily importing Argentine agricultural products.
