Another nephew of Pedro Castillo accused of demanding bribes from public official

Jaime Vásquez Castillo, a nephew of Peru’s President Pedro Castillo, has been accused of claiming part of the salary each month from an official of the National Superintendence of State Assets (SBN) from whom he got the job.

This person is the former general manager of the SBN, Edgar Lucio López, and according to Vásquez, he has allegedly allied with Edgar León Ordóñez to demand PEN 2,000 (US$500) per month on up to five occasions.

Lopez has also denounced that the recently appointed superintendent of the SBN, Roger Gavidia, demanded PEN 20,000 per month from him.

“I don’t know; you take from where you can,” he has denounced that he demanded in a meeting in which Vásquez himself was present, according to the program Cuarto Poder of the Peruvian channel América Televisión.

Lucio has pointed to León Ordóñez as the “shadow superintendent”, who went from receiving a salary of PEN 5,500 as a technical assistant to two other salaries of PEN 35,000 each for financial and senior management consulting work.

Jaime Vásquez is the older brother of Fray Vásquez, a fugitive from Peruvian justice after he was remanded in custody for more than a year five months ago while being investigated for alleged corruption in a scheme allegedly led by President Castillo to receive money in exchange for managing the delivery of public works.
