The Wall Street Journal recently reported, based on sources from US officials, that China and Cuba are in advanced negotiations regarding the establishment of a military training site in northern Cuba.
The potential development could facilitate a permanent presence of Chinese troops on the island and intensify espionage activities.
This report emerged following claims by the White House that Beijing has established spy facilities in Cuba, located approximately 90 miles from the US.
The Wall Street Journal had reported on June 9 that an undisclosed deal had been made between China and Cuba to set up an electronic surveillance facility on the island, roughly 100 miles from Florida.
However, the Chinese government refuted the report suggesting a multi-billion-dollar agreement for an ‘eavesdropping’ facility in Cuba, labeling it as ‘rumors and slander’ propagated by the US.
Both Cuban and American officials have similarly denied the existence of such an agreement.
