Rise in approval for Brazilian Finance Minister Haddad among those who know him

According to a recent PoderData survey conducted from June 25 to 27, 2023, the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, has seen an increase in approval among Brazilians who are familiar with him.

The survey shows that 34% of respondents who know Haddad believe he is doing a “good” or “great” job, a 10 percentage point increase from the previous survey conducted in April.

The positive assessment is driven by voters who previously stated they were unsure about evaluating the minister, decreasing their percentage from 23% to 13%.

Haddad’s negative assessment remained unchanged from April to June, with 22% of respondents who know him evaluating his performance as “bad” or “terrible.”

Another 31% described his performance as “regular.”

The survey, conducted by PoderData, gathered data through phone interviews with 2,500 respondents from 262 cities across all 27 states in Brazil.

The margin of error is 2 percentage points with a 95% confidence interval.

Among beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família social program who are familiar with Haddad, his evaluation also improved since April.

Among this group, 31% rated his performance as “good” or “great” (a 7 percentage point increase), 35% as “regular” (an 11 percentage point increase), and 19% as “bad” or “terrible” (a 6 percentage point decrease).

The survey also examined the correlation between respondents’ evaluation of Haddad and their voting preferences in the second round of the 2022 elections.

The survey shows that positive economic news influenced Haddad’s evaluation in the year’s first half.

However, the increase in government spending and potential fiscal risks may impact the minister’s viability as a successor to President Lula.

While Haddad’s recognition and positive evaluation are on the rise, it is important to note that several factors can still influence his political prospects, and there are still three seasons ahead before any final decisions are made.
