Copa America delegations to arrive in Brazil this week

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Copa América tournament delegations will arrive in Brazil this week. The South American soccer championship will kick off on Sunday, June 13, with the match between Brazil and Venezuela, at 4 PM.

The Federal District’s Prosecutor’s Office (MPDF) task force, which is monitoring the efforts against the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil, has requested information in order to understand what safety measures are being implemented in the competition.

The MPDF’s request was submitted to the Federal District government, the State Police and the concessionaire managing the Mané Garrincha stadium, one of the competition’s venues.

In a statement, the government signaled that it will comply with the MPDF’s request within the specified period of 5 days.

Last week, President Jair Bolsonaro said that the health measures to be taken during the Copa América will be the same as those adopted in other international sports competitions, such as the Libertadores da América and Copa Sudamericana. The tournament is scheduled to run until July 10.
