Brazilian producers merge to become the world’s largest egg company

Katayama Alimentos and Granja Faria have announced their strategic union, creating what they claim to be the largest egg company in the world.

Under the agreement, Granja Faria will assume control of the brand, with Katayama becoming part of its assets.

Gilson Tadashi Katayama, the former president-director of Katayama Alimentos, will retain a minority share and join the board of Granja Faria.

The merger aims to ensure the continuity of Katayama Alimentos, a renowned company in the Brazilian commercial egg sector since its founding in 1942.

With a strong reputation for reliability and product quality, the company has become a leader in its markets, particularly in the state of São Paulo retail segment.

The production figures of both companies support their claim of being the largest egg company globally.

In 2022, Katayama sold over 700 million eggs, serving both the domestic market and exports, notably to Japan.

The company currently manages nearly 3 million birds. Granja Faria, operating since 2006, boasts nine brands and has a presence in eight Brazilian states, along with egg exports to ten countries.

The merged companies anticipate significant synergies in production, logistics, and administration.

They aim to unify management models and improve efficiency, optimizing the supply chain for key inputs such as soy, corn, and packaging and enhancing the distribution of eggs and derivatives in regional markets within São Paulo.

The merger is subject to approval by the Administrative Council of Economic Defense, and both companies are confident that the strategic alliance will bring mutual benefits and strengthen their position in the global egg industry.
