Risk-Off Global Mood Knocks Ibovespa From Highs As Data Underscore Brazil Slowdown
Investors start Tuesday digesting a choppy global session that pulled Brazil’s benchmark back from record territory.
The Ibovespa slipped 0.47% on Monday to 156,992.93 points, while the dollar rose 0.64% to R$ 5.33 as risk appetite faded on Wall Street and in Europe ahead of US tech earnings.
In the US, indices fell as traders cut exposure to artificial-intelligence leaders before Nvidia’s results. European markets followed, with talk of an “AI bubble” and uncertainty over the US rate path encouraging profit-taking.
The main Brazil ETF in New York (EWZ) lost about 1.2% on above-average volume, signalling that foreign investors reduced exposure.
Domestically, the IBC-Br activity index fell 0.20% in September versus August and showed a 0.9% contraction in the third quarter, despite federal spending rising more than 5%.

The figures confirm that tight monetary policy is biting harder than fiscal activism and strengthened bets on a first Selic cut as early as January.
Market Gains Tempered by Mixed Earnings and Overbought Charts
Inflation expectations in the Focus survey eased to 4.46%, moving inside the central bank’s tolerance band but highlighting a slower economy.
Stock moves were driven by earnings and balance-sheet stories. Among the top five gainers, food group MBRF (MBRF3) jumped 4.9% on third-quarter results and the reopening of Chinese poultry imports.
CVC (CVCB3), Assaí (ASAI3), Cemig (CMIG4) and Suzano (SUZB3) advanced between 2.4% and 3.3%, helped by the stronger dollar, defensive positioning and company-specific news.
On the losing side, rail operator Rumo (RAIL3) plunged 9.1% after a weak quarter and sharply higher financial expenses, while Vamos (VAMO3), Magazine Luiza (MGLU3), CSN (CSNA3) and Cosan (CSAN3) dropped 3% to 7% on concerns over leverage and funding costs.
Blue-chip flows were selective. Petrobras gained ground despite softer Brent prices after announcing an “excellent quality” oil discovery in the Campos Basin, reassuring investors. Vale lagged, weighed down by legal risks linked to the 2015 Samarco dam disaster.
Technically, the Ibovespa remains in a strong uptrend but daily and four-hour charts are overbought, suggesting consolidation or a pullback would be healthier than another straight-line surge.
