Full Rundown
The Rio leg of the national Seletivas Porão do Rock 2026 circuit — a multi-city selection process choosing 12 bands for the main Porão do Rock festival in Brasília on May 22-23. Matanza Ritual headlines: the Brazilian hardcore-and-countrycore supergroup formed in 2019 by Jimmy London (ex-Matanza, vocals), Felipe Andreoli (ex-Angra, bass — also fresh from the Angra Reunion at Espaço Unimed in São Paulo on Wednesday), Antônio Araújo (Korzus, guitar) and Amílcar Christófaro (Torture Squad, drums). The band’s mission: keep the spirit of the original Matanza alive with ironic lyrics and social criticism, with singles “Tempo Ruim,” the album A Vingança do Diabo, and the new “Morte Súbita” and “Sujeito Amargo.” Trampa opens. Plus 10 selected bands competing for festival slots: Emet, Ereboros, Fire in the Park, Herança Negra, Pic-Nic, Playmoboys, Primadama, Silvertape, Sound Bullet, Trama. Doors at 4 pm — afternoon-into-night format. 18+, 14-17 with parents. Tickets in three lotes from R$70 meia / R$140 inteira (Lote 1) up to R$90 / R$180 (Lote 3).
Friday at the Av. Atlântica room runs the Blue Note’s signature Friday-Saturday double-bill format. The 8 pm session: Nilze Carvalho & Ana Costa in “A Vida que se Quer” — the cantora and the cantora-compositora trading sets and meeting at the centre of an MPB programme that draws from samba, choro and the singer-songwriter tradition. The 10:30 pm late session is a complete change of register: Celebration Zep brings a full Led Zeppelin tribute to the Copacabana stage — Plant-and-Page-era classics interpreted with the polish the Blue Note’s room is known for. Two sessions, separate tickets, fifteen-minute turnover. From the casa’s own programming notes: this is the Friday that demonstrates “the breadth of the week” at the venue, swinging from MPB intimism to Zeppelin’s volume in two hours.
The casarão’s Friday — peak night of its Wed-Sat week. House opens at 6 pm. Liz Rosa performs in two sets: 7:30–8:30 pm and 9 pm–10 pm, on the main Palco Scenarium.
Around her, the Baile do Zen takes over the floor with DJ-driven dance music, with interventions from 8:30 pm running through to 2 am close.
Three floors, seven environments — samba, gafieira, chorinho on the main stage; the second floor balcony for the rail seats; the Salão Anexo at the top with the broader pop-and-international format. Friday queues build from 9 pm; arrive earlier for the rail.
The 19th-century mansion at Lavradio 20 was voted by The Guardian as one of the 10 best bars in the world.
The Pequena África district returns to its proper rhythm tonight.
The Pedra do Sal — the historical site at the foot of Morro da Conceição, recognised as a remnant urban quilombo since 2005, the cradle of carioca urban samba — runs its Friday roda from 6 pm, with the music continuing past midnight.
The atmosphere is street-festival: havaianas, people across the cobblestone steps and around the rock, caipirinha and cold beer, samba de raiz and choro from rotating groups. Free entry, cash for the bars.
Friday is one of the busier nights of the week — slightly less crowded than the famous Monday roda but with full energy. The two nearest metro stations are Uruguaiana (Line 1, on Av. Presidente Vargas) and Carioca (Line 1/2).
Watch your phone in the crowd; ride-hailing for the trip back.
Carioca da Gema at Mem de Sá 79 runs its Friday hours 7:30 pm to 2:30 am — the casarão at peak with smaller, hotter, more carioca crowd than Scenarium, the bar at the back the strategic spot. Beco do Rato on Joaquim Silva 11 opens 6 pm with Friday hours running to 2 am — the alley institution with roda de samba, no microphones, cash and PIX. Bip Bip on R. Almirante Gonçalves 50 in Copacabana hosts its Friday samba roda from 9 pm — Alfredinho’s 18-square-metre bar since 1968, self-service from the fridge, finger-snap applause, silence during the music. Five minutes from Blue Note. The full Friday triangle.
—Note. 4 pm — Rock route. Doors at Circo Voador for the Seletivas Porão do Rock — Matanza Ritual + Trampa + 10 bands competing. The afternoon-into-night metal/hardcore programme.
—Note. 6 pm — Pedra do Sal alternative. Metro Carioca then 15-minute walk through Centro to the Saúde roda. The traditional Friday opener — free, outdoor, samba.
—Note. 8 pm — Blue Note Rio for Nilze Carvalho & Ana Costa “A Vida que se Quer.” The Copacabana intimism. Or Rio Scenarium 7:30 pm for Liz Rosa.
—Note. 10:30 pm — Celebration Zep at Blue Note for the Led Zeppelin tribute. Or push to Lapa for the late samba at Carioca da Gema or Beco do Rato.
—Note. 1 am — close. Lapa runs to 2 am Friday. Pedra do Sal until past midnight. Ride-hailing for the trip back — Friday-into-holiday surge will be moderate.
—Note. Friday after 10 pm:
—Blue Note Rio. Celebration Zep at 10:30 pm — full Led Zeppelin tribute, the late session.
—Rio Scenarium. peaks between 10 pm and 2 am — Liz Rosa’s second set, the Baile do Zen on the floor, three floors at Friday capacity.
—Carioca da Gema. peak intensity 9:30 pm onward, runs to 2:30 am — the latest Lapa close on a Friday.
—Beco do Rato. Friday roda runs to 2 am.
—Bip Bip. Friday samba from 9 pm — typically running past midnight.
—Pedra do Sal. roda continues past midnight, holiday-eve crowd.
—Circo Voador. Matanza Ritual show in full flight. Nova Capela kitchen runs late for the post-Lapa cabrito. Tomorrow is Saturday Dia do Trabalho holiday — and the Shakira show at Copacabana takes over the Zona Sul completely.

Getting Around
Pedra do Sal: Uruguaiana (Line 1) or Carioca (Line 1/2) plus a 10-15 minute walk through Centro — Carioca is the more pleasant route. Last metro around midnight; ride-hailing for the trip back. Taxis usually available at Largo João da Baiana — do not walk into the surrounding streets to find one. Blue Note Rio: Cardeal Arcoverde or Siqueira Campos (Line 1) for Av. Atlântica. Bip Bip is a 5-minute walk from Blue Note. Lapa: Cinelândia or Carioca for Scenarium, Gema, Beco — all within 10 minutes’ walk on the Lavradio / Mem de Sá / Joaquim Silva axis. Circo Voador: Cinelândia is the closest metro, 8 minutes’ walk; afternoon-into-night format means returning during off-peak. Metro: normal hours through midnight; ride-hailing for late departures. Weather: Cool damp Friday — 27 °C, 25 % rain. Carry an umbrella. Ride-hailing: 99 and Uber — Friday-into-holiday surge moderate, with hard Lapa-out spike between 1 and 2:30 am. Safety: Rio de Janeiro on a Friday-into-holiday is at full energy. Lapa Arches busy until late, thinner after 2 am — take the cab from Lavradio rather than walking the side streets toward Glória. Pedra do Sal crowd is dense — phone secure. Heads-up for tomorrow: Avenida Atlântica fully closes to vehicles from 19h Saturday — plan beach plans around the Shakira lockdown.
