Brazil’s Santa Catarina state allocates funds to modernize Blumenau Airport, more flights

The government of Santa Catarina is set to invest around R$7 (US$1.4) million into the Blumenau Airport in anticipation of the upcoming Oktoberfest.

This announcement came as Azul, a commercial airline, revealed plans to extend its services to the airport during the festival.

This investment will be channeled through the State’s Ports, Airports, and Railways department in collaboration with Blumenau’s municipal government, contributing R$ 751 thousand to the total fund.

The planned upgrades include repavement, expansion of runways, and enhancements to increase the airport’s structural capacity, ensuring more flights and improved safety and convenience for passengers.

This new initiative adds to an ongoing R$ 4 million project focusing on night-time navigation aids.

With these combined efforts, the Blumenau Airport will benefit from a total of R$11 million in improvements.

In connection with the Oktoberfest, the second-largest in the word, Azul announced expanded flight operations, especially catering to attendees of the 38th Oktoberfest edition.

During October 6-23, additional daily flights are scheduled between Viracopos Airport in Campinas and Navegantes.

Furthermore, flights from Blumenau will be available to Curitiba and Congonhas, with tickets soon being sold.

Azul recognizes the increasing allure of Oktoberfest in Blumenau, noting its significance in the national tourism calendar.

This expanded service ensures that attendees from various parts of Brazil and beyond can easily access the festival.
