Brazil: Cruise ship tourism resumed in Bahia

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The arrival of the MSC Seaside cruise ship, the largest of the Brazilian season, which departed from Ilha Grande (RJ) and docked at the Passenger Terminal of the Bahian capital Salvador on Tuesday, December 7, with 4,265 passengers on board, marked the resumption.

An estimated 63 cruise ships are expected to dock between 2021 and 2022, with 170,000 tourists visiting Salvador, arriving at the terminal’s disinfection areas, where vaccination tests and PCR examinations are required.

In the Port of Ilhéus, the docking of the MSC Prezioza on Thursday, December 9, with approximately 3,000 passengers on board, marked the beginning of the cruise season on the Costa do Cacau.

The stretch of the southern coast of Bahia, located about 450 km from Salvador, includes the municipalities of Itacaré, Uruçuca, Ilhéus, Itabuna, Olivença, Una, Santa Luzia and Canavieiras. The cruise ship is also scheduled to return to Ilhéus on December 16, 21 and 29.

Through April 2022, some 35 dockings are planned with passengers coming from different parts of Brazil, such as Natal (RN), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Maceió (AL) and Santos (SP).
