Argentine president thinks aloud about moving the capital to the north of the country
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the framework of an act in the province of Tucumán, President Alberto Fernández confessed that he thinks about the possibility of moving the Capital every day to another point of the country.
“Every day, I think if the capital of Argentina should not be in a different place than Buenos Aires”, said the President, and asked himself: “Isn’t it time to take up these challenges and ask ourselves as a society how to do it?
At a meeting of the Federal Cabinet, in the city of Monteros, Tucumán, where almost 40 agreements were signed for financing and work in different areas of the northern province, the President pointed out: “We have an enormous possibility as a country to do things. Differently, the pandemic has to be a moment of reflection”.

And he continued: “We are not condemned to the inequality we are living today, we can reverse it, and that depends on us”.

Thus, the President pointed out that it could be possible to move the Capital to the north of Argentina. “Every day I think if it would not have to come to the north to give it all the potential generated by a capital city in any country”, warned Fernández.
The chief of state highlighted “a great opportunity” in this direction. “We have a great opportunity, Argentina is growing at an accelerated pace; it has grown much more than what everyone expected”, he said, and continued: “But growth does not reach everyone, and we need Argentina to grow equally in all sectors, it does not make sense that some grow and others continue to be left behind”.
In this sense, Fernández highlighted that “no one can be happy enjoying their wealth in an impoverished community”. “We cannot allow that to happen”, he pointed out, and underlined: “For us, federalism is not a speech; it is to call for the integral development of Argentina”.
“ALTERNATE CAPITALS”
With the aim of “deepening the implementation of decentralization and federalization policies, bringing management and government affairs closer to the whole national territory”, at the end of 2020, the “Alternate Capitals” project became law, an initiative that promotes -among other issues- the relocation of National Public Administration agencies.
