Neoenergia and Rock in Rio join forces to rock the world with sustainable concerts and carbon neutrality

Neoenergia, a leading energy distributor in Brazil and a subsidiary of Iberdrola, has partnered with Rock in Rio organizers to promote sustainability in major music events in Latin America.

The agreement aims to develop innovative solutions to minimize the environmental impact of large-scale concerts and offset carbon emissions.

The collaboration includes the implementation of a joint awareness campaign to educate concertgoers about the importance of adopting environmentally friendly habits and combating climate change.

During the upcoming edition of The Town, a festival held in São Paulo, Neoenergia, will ensure that solar panels power all event lighting.

Utilizing electric vehicles, the company will also facilitate carbon-free mobility within the racetrack premises.

Furthermore, as part of the initiative, each attendee of The Town and Rock in Rio will be encouraged to swap a conventional lamp for an energy-efficient LED bulb in schools, hospitals, and low-income communities in Neoenergia’s service areas.

This action alone will save energy equivalent to the annual consumption of 17,000 Brazilian households for each event.

Neoenergia’s CEO, Eduardo Capelastegui, emphasized that the shift to more efficient and sustainable lighting options leads to substantial savings and benefits the environment.

Looking ahead to the next edition of Rock in Rio in 2024, Neoenergia has committed to ensuring that all energy consumed during the event comes from renewable sources.

Capelastegui highlighted the importance of expanding renewable energy generation and fostering sustainable consumption to achieve a fair and inclusive energy transition.

He also mentioned Neoenergia’s strategic efforts to connect with new customers as the electricity sector in Brazil moves toward liberalization.

Rock in Rio has been actively offsetting its carbon emissions since 2006, preventing 420,000 tons of polluting gases over 18 editions held in Brazil, Portugal, and Spain.

To take further strides towards sustainability, Rock World’s Brand Reputation director, Roberta Medina, expressed the need for innovative solutions within their festivals and across the music industry.

This motivated their choice to partner with Neoenergia in this mission.
