Agriculture and livestock in Brazil’s Northeast grew 43% in the last 4 years

The agricultural and livestock production of the Brazilian Northeast grew 43% in the last four years.

In values, the number went from about R$79 billion (US$15.63 billion) in 2018 to almost R$113 billion (US$22.36 billion) last year.

For 2023, however, the forecast is that the Gross Value of Agricultural and Livestock Production (GVA) of the Northeast will decline by 1% – in comparison with the consolidated 2022.

The information is part of a survey by Revista Oeste based on the 2023 VBP numbers released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cattle Raising (Mapa) on Tuesday, 18.

CATTLE-RAISING IN THE NORTHEAST: SERGIPE WAS THE ONE THAT GREW THE MOST

The Northeastern state that had the most significant growth in terms of GVA in the last four years was Sergipe, which saw the gross value of its farming and cattle-raising increase by 92%.

Right behind comes Piauí, which grew 87%.

In third place, Maranhão registered a growth of 54%.

In the fourth position is Bahia, with an increase of 41%.

Alagoas grew by 29%.

Pernambuco had an expansion of 27%.

Paraíba’s result rose 20% and Ceará’s 11%.

Rio Grande do Norte registered the lowest agricultural and cattle raising the region’s growth in the period, only 2%.

The value of agriculture in the region grew by 50%, going from R$59 billion in 2018 to R$88 billion in 2022.

Livestock increased by 23%, from R$20 billion in 2018 to R$24 billion in 2022.
