Tonight’s Vibe Menu
Thursday is when Rio de Janeiro nightlife shifts from mid-week warmth to weekend heat, and tonight the Blue Note delivers one of its strongest double bills of the Mês das Mulheres. Natascha Falcão opens the evening with a format stripped to its elemental: voz e sanfona. A Pernambucana from Recife who moved to Rio to build a career from zero, Falcão was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best New Artist for her debut album “Ave Mulher” — a record that fused coco, ciranda, maracatu, frevo and Mangue Beat into something that Globo’s musical director Ricardo Leão compared to a new Elba Ramalho. Her version of “Anjo Querubim” is currently running in the novela “Dona de Mim.” Tonight she plays the Blue Note in what multiple press sources call “formato minimalista e requintado”: just voice and accordion, nordestinidade as a living field of creation. At 10:30 pm, Roberta Spindel presents “Sempre Será” — original songs alongside reinterpretations of Brazilian classics, with recordings alongside Caetano Veloso, Ney Matogrosso, Zeca Baleiro and Renato Teixeira. Upstairs, the Piano Bar Experience runs with the house pianists and special guests (R$25 couvert). In Lapa, the full circuit is running for the second night: Rio Scenarium, Carioca da Gema, Beco do Rato, Nova Capela. This is part of The Rio Times’ daily Rio de Janeiro nightlife coverage for expats and visitors. Sunny — 30 °C, 0 % rain. A cloudless Thursday night.

1Blue Note Rio — Natascha Falcão

Nordestino · Voz & Sanfona

The concept is nordestinidade — not as nostalgia but as a living field of creation. Natascha Falcão is a 35-year-old Pernambucana from Recife who arrived in Rio with nothing and built a career that now includes a Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, three novela soundtracks on Globo, and a comparison to Elba Ramalho from the network’s own musical director. Her debut album “Ave Mulher” (Biscoito Fino) wove coco, ciranda, maracatu, frevo and Mangue Beat into a statement that music critic José Teles said confirmed the forró’s “national reach and a new wave of interest.” Tonight at the Blue Note she strips back even further: just voice and sanfona, the most minimal format on the Mês das Mulheres programme. The repertoire draws from her albums plus reinterpretations of Northeastern classics — “Adeus”, “Timidez”, “Anjo Querubim” (currently airing in Dona de Mim), “Hotel das Estrelas”, “Beija-Flor”, “O Ciúme”, “Algo Contigo.” Falcão was a guest performer at Taís Feijão’s Blue Note show earlier this month; tonight she has the main stage to herself.

Mês das Mulheres · Grammy nominee · Dona de Mim

2Blue Note Rio — Roberta Spindel · “Sempre Será”

MPB · Original · Intimate

The late session shifts register entirely — from Falcão’s Northeastern minimalism to Spindel’s urban MPB sophistication. Roberta Spindel presents “Sempre Será”, a show that mixes original compositions with reinterpretations of Brazilian standards. Her recording history runs through duets and collaborations with Caetano Veloso, Ney Matogrosso, Zeca Baleiro and Renato Teixeira — artists who have lent their voices to her songs and vice versa. Tonight she premieres the title track for the first time on any stage. The format is intimate: Spindel with Gabriel Barreto on percussion and Vinny Andrade on violão/guitarra, plus special guests. The 10:30 pm slot at the Blue Note draws the attentive late crowd — smaller, quieter, more focused. The kind of room where a premiere lands properly.

3Rio Scenarium — Thursday at Full Power

Samba · Gafieira · Choro

Thursday at the Scenarium steps up from Wednesday’s gentler reopening. The crowd grows, the dance floor fills earlier, and the three-storey 19th-century casarão on Rua do Lavradio starts to feel like the venue that earned its place in the Guardian’s global top-10 bars. The cover may push toward R$40 on a Thursday (check @rioscenarium), but the value is in the totality: samba and choro on the main stage, gafieira dancing on the floor, seven environments across three floors filled with antiques, the sound leaking through the wooden staircases. Arrive before 9 pm for a table. By 10 pm the dance floor is in motion. Thursday is the night that most closely approaches the Saturday energy without the Saturday crowd.

Thu 7 pm–1 am · Cover ~R$30–40 · Sympla
R. do Lavradio, 20 – Centro
3 floors · 7 environments · Gafieira

4Carioca da Gema — Thursday Samba

Samba · MPB

Thursday is the night when the Gema’s Happy Hour becomes a genuine strategy, not just a convenience. The crowd builds from 7 pm onward, and by 9 pm the three rooms on Mem de Sá feel proportioned the way they are designed to: lively, warm, with the samba filling the space without overwhelming it. The HH deal — free entry from 6:30 pm, dose dupla caipirinha de limão, Original at R$12.99, 50 % off petiscos — rewards early arrival. After 8:30 pm, the cover kicks in and the show takes over. Thursday at the Gema is also the best night to combine it with Rio Scenarium: the two-venue Lapa crawl that runs Happy Hour at the Gema, then crosses to the Scenarium for the gafieira at 10 pm.

Thu doors 7:30 pm · Show 8:30 pm
Av. Mem de Sá, 79 – Lapa
HH free 6:30–8:30 · Caipirinha · Original R$12.99

5Blue Note Rio — Piano Bar Experience

Piano · Lounge · Upstairs

Thursday at the Blue Note adds a third option that the other nights don’t offer: the Piano Bar Experience on the first floor, above the main stage. The format runs house pianists and special guests (announced weekly on @bluenoterio) in a 140-capacity lounge setting with a R$25 couvert artístico. This is the Blue Note at its most informal — a cocktail-and-piano atmosphere that sits between the intensity of the main stage below and the open air of the calçadão Happy Hour. If the Natascha Falcão and Roberta Spindel double bill is sold out or you want something less structured, the Piano Bar is the Thursday discovery.

Thu · Piano Bar · 1st floor · R$25 couvert
Av. Atlântica, 1910 – Copacabana
140 capacity · House pianists + guests
