THE RIO TIMES
Independent Reporting From Brazil and Latin America, In English
Founded in June 2009, The Rio Times began with Swiss roots and a clear purpose: to make Brazil and Latin America legible to the wider world.
We publish in English for readers who want to understand what is happening, what it means, and why it matters beyond the headlines.
Our journalism focuses on Brazil first, with expanding coverage across Latin America and the wider Global South.
Our reporting is independently written and sourced. We do not publish machine translations or republished content from Portuguese-language media.
We prioritize clarity, context, and accountability reporting. We aim to be accurate, fair, and transparent in our framing, especially on complex issues where local realities are often simplified abroad.
As the media landscape shifted, we moved fully online and built a digital-first newsroom designed for speed, depth, and accessibility.
Since 2020, we have expanded our reporting to include more explanatory coverage, regional investigations, and data-informed analysis that connects policy, markets, security, and everyday life.
Our audience has grown sharply, increasing fifteen-fold from 2019 to 2025. The Rio Times is no longer read mainly by English-speaking expats in Brazil.
Today, our readership is global and diverse, spanning professionals, students, and engaged readers who follow the region’s outsized influence on commodities, diplomacy, and democratic governance.
Our largest audiences are now in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, India, Singapore, and Japan.
We believe no country’s story stands alone. We report Latin America with that reality in mind.
