Tonight’s Vibe Menu
Wednesday night in São Paulo lands on a programme built for the listener more than the dancer. The Casa de Francisca — the Palacete Teresa Toledo Lara on Rua Quintino Bocaiúva, 22, in the Sé district — runs all four stages tonight. In the Salão, Ayrton Montarroyos presents “Estudando Ary Barroso,” an open rehearsal for his next album dedicated to the composer of “Aquarela do Brasil.” The guest is Mônica Salmaso — one of the most decorated vocalists in Brazilian music, four-time Latin Grammy nominee, with a voice that has defined the art song tradition in São Paulo for three decades. In Sala B, the duo Marina Nemésio and Rodrigo Coelho perform “João 1958,” a show reconstructing João Gilberto’s private recordings from 1958 — the year before he changed Brazilian music forever. In the Porão, the trans artists collective Desacuenda, directed by Dandá Costa, presents original compositions and collaborative arrangements. The Largo opens free from 18h30 with DJ Pepe Paulo. This is part of The Rio Times’ daily São Paulo nightlife coverage for expats and visitors. Over on Avenida Paulista, the Blue Note SP has a revised programme tonight: the Bárbara Fialho show has been cancelled, but Thaís Mello performs “Do Jazz ao Soul” at 22h30 — the late session stands. In Moema, the Bourbon Street Music Club presents Gabi Anias with a full Eric Clapton blues tribute from 21h. In Pinheiros, Ó do Borogodó opens at 22h for its Wednesday samba. Drizzle tonight — around 21°C, 60% chance of rain. Bring an umbrella.

1Casa de Francisca — Ayrton Montarroyos · Estudando Ary Barroso
MPB · Ary Barroso

The Casa de Francisca runs all four stages tonight, and the headline is in the Salão: Ayrton Montarroyos returns to the Palacete Teresa with “Estudando Ary Barroso,” an open rehearsal — or “laboratório de repertório,” as the house describes it — for his next album dedicated to the composer of “Aquarela do Brasil,” “Na Baixa do Sapateiro” and “Camisa Amarela.” The format is deliberately unfinished: Montarroyos and his trio — Cello Cascino on violão, Ariane Rodrigues on flautas, and Arquétipo Rafa on percussion — are testing arrangements, adjusting choices, and sharing the construction with the audience. Tonight’s guest is Mônica Salmaso, one of the defining voices of Brazilian art song. Salmaso’s catalogue spans three decades of critical acclaim — four Latin Grammy nominations, two Prêmio da Música Brasileira awards, and a vocal presence that draws on erudite, popular, and regional traditions simultaneously. The pairing with Montarroyos and the Ary Barroso songbook makes this one of the strongest midweek programmes in the city. Tomorrow (Thursday) the series continues with João Camarero as guest. In Sala B at 21h30, Marina Nemésio and Rodrigo Coelho present “João 1958” — a reconstruction of João Gilberto’s private recordings from the year before he invented bossa nova. In the Porão at 21h30, Desacuenda — the trans artists collective directed by Dandá Costa — performs original compositions with guests Jupitter, Albert Magno and Coral. The Largo opens free from 18h30 with DJ Pepe Paulo. Salão opens 19h30. Winner of the APCA 2018 prize and the Folha de São Paulo’s 2025 “Melhor Casa de Show” award (under 500 capacity). Metro Sé (Line 1).

2Blue Note SP — Thaís Mello · Do Jazz ao Soul
Jazz · Soul · Mês da Mulher

Tonight’s programme at the Blue Note SP has been revised: the Bárbara Fialho show — originally scheduled for 20h as a Rolling Stone Novas Vozes presentation — has been cancelled by the promoter. Eventim has issued automatic refunds. The 22h30 session stands: Thaís Mello takes the stage with “Do Jazz ao Soul,” a show that bridges the American jazz-soul tradition with Brazilian vocal sensibility. This falls within the Blue Note SP’s March Mês da Mulher programme, curated by Luiz Calainho and Facundo Guerra. The Blue Note occupies the second floor of the Conjunto Nacional — the iconic modernist building on Avenida Paulista, 2073, opened in 1955 — and its 800-square-metre room offers an intimacy that rewards the solo-vocal format: voice and rhythm at close range, with the avenue’s skyline visible through the windows. Doors at 19h, show at 22h30. Tickets via Eventim. The calçadão and piano bar area on the Paulista-facing terrace opens from 17h Tuesday through Friday with free entry. Tomorrow (Thursday): Indiana Nomma presents the official Tributo a Mercedes Sosa at 20h, followed by Tali — daughter of the late Deise Cipriano of Fat Family — at 22h30.

Wed 10:30 pm (8 pm show cancelled)
Av. Paulista, 2073 – Consolação

3Bourbon Street — Gabi Anias · Eric Clapton Tribute
Blues · Clapton · Moema

The Bourbon Street Music Club on Rua dos Chanés, 127, in Moema, hosts a full Eric Clapton blues tribute tonight performed by Gabi Anias — one of the venue’s breakthrough artists from the Bourbon Street Fest programme. The setlist draws on Clapton’s career from the Yardbirds and Cream through the solo decades: “Layla,” “Wonderful Tonight,” “Crossroads,” “Tears in Heaven.” The Bourbon Street — listed among the top 100 music venues in the world by DownBeat Magazine — has been São Paulo’s home for blues and jazz since 1994, occupying a converted theatre in the residential heart of Moema. The room seats around 500 and the sound system is consistently praised as one of the best in the city. Doors at 19h30, show at 21h. Couvert artístico R$65 first lot via Sympla. The kitchen runs New Orleans-inspired fare — ceviche, burgers, ribs — alongside cold chope and cocktails. Wednesday is one of the club’s blues-focused nights; Thursday shifts to funk with Let’s Groove Tribute. Metro Eucaliptos (Line 5-Lilac), fifteen minutes on foot.

4Ó do Borogodó — Wednesday Samba
Samba · Pinheiros

Wednesday at the Ó do Borogodó is one of the strongest nights on the weekly rotation — the crowd is dedicated, the musicians are sharp, and the room rewards those who arrive before midnight to secure a position near the stage. The bar on Rua Horácio Lane, 21, in Pinheiros has been the home of samba de raiz in São Paulo since 2001, hosting the city’s most respected sambistas, chorões and cancioneiros in a no-frills room with exposed brick, a small scattering of tables, and a sound that fills every corner. Wednesday hours run from 22h to 3h, with live samba from around midnight. The repertoire centres on partido-alto and samba de terreiro, with choro standards woven through. The cover charge is typically R$20. Cold beer, caipirinhas, and boteco food — the caldo de feijão and sardine sandwich are house staples. The crowd skews younger than weekend sessions but equally committed to the music. Metro Vila Madalena (Line 2-Green) or Faria Lima (Line 4-Yellow), ten minutes on foot through the Pinheiros bar strip.

5Bar Brahma Centro — Wednesday Samba
Samba · MPB · Centro

The Bar Brahma on the corner of Avenida São João and Avenida Ipiranga — the esquina mais famosa de São Paulo — runs its Wednesday programme with live samba and MPB from the evening. The house has been in continuous operation since 1948 and stages around 1,500 performances a year across its main salão, balcony, and pavement tables. Wednesday nights draw a mixed crowd of regulars, office workers winding down, and tourists following the Ipiranga-São João intersection that Caetano Veloso immortalised in “Sampa.” The kitchen serves full Brazilian fare alongside cold chope Brahma and caipirinhas — the bolinho de bacalhau and coxinha are house standards. Open until 2 am tonight. Metro República (Lines 3-Red and 4-Yellow), two minutes on foot. The Bar Brahma is a natural pairing with the Casa de Francisca — both are in the Centro zone, twelve minutes apart on foot or one metro stop (República to Sé).

Suggested Route
One way to do it
1
6:30 pm — Casa de Francisca Largo for DJ Pepe Paulo
The evening anchor. The Largo — the outdoor bar-de-discos on the calçadão facing the Largo da Misericórdia — opens free from 18h30 with DJ Pepe Paulo spinning funk, soul, Brazilian, Latin and African grooves on vinyl. Settle in with a drink and the Palacete Teresa as backdrop. R. Quintino Bocaiúva, 22. Metro Sé.
2
9:30 pm — Casa de Francisca Salão for Montarroyos + Salmaso
The centrepiece. The Salão opens 19h30, show at 21h30. Ayrton Montarroyos tests his Ary Barroso arrangements with Mônica Salmaso as guest — an intimate laboratory format that rewards close listening. If the Salão is full, Sala B (Marina Nemésio “João 1958”) or the Porão (Desacuenda) are strong alternatives running simultaneously.
3
10:30 pm — Blue Note SP for Thaís Mello
After the Salão set ends: metro from Sé to Consolação (Line 1-Blue, four stops, ten minutes). The Blue Note SP’s calçadão is open until the show. Thaís Mello takes the stage at 22h30. Tickets via Eventim. Av. Paulista, 2073.
4
Midnight — Ó do Borogodó for late samba
The late anchor. From Paulista to Pinheiros: ride-hail fifteen minutes or metro to Faria Lima (Line 4-Yellow, one stop from Paulista). The Ó do Borogodó’s live samba is in full swing by midnight and runs until 3 am. The cover is around R$20. Cold beer, exposed brick, samba de raiz. R. Horácio Lane, 21.

05
Still Going After 22h
Late night

Wednesday after 10 pm in São Paulo splits into three zones. On Avenida Paulista, the Blue Note SP has the Thaís Mello session from 22h30 — the last ticketed performance of the evening on the avenue. The Baixo Augusta bars along Rua Augusta south of Paulista stay active on Wednesday evenings — cocktail bars, craft beer spots, and late-night restaurants keep the strip lit until 2 am. In Pinheiros, the Ó do Borogodó is the late anchor — live samba from around midnight until 3 am. The Vila Madalena bar strip on Rua Aspicuelta and Rua Mourato Coelho is active but lighter than the weekend. In Centro, Bar Brahma stays open until 2 am with live music. D-Edge is dark tonight — the club opens Thursday through Saturday. Casa de Francisca shows end around 23h in the Salão and Sala B; the Porão (Desacuenda) runs later. MASP is open until 20h on Wednesdays (free admission) — the last window for Tarsila Popular before it closes later this month. The Expo Revestir trade fair runs through Friday at São Paulo Expo — not a nightlife event but worth noting for those in town on business.

06
Plan B
More tonight

Getting Around
Transport intel

Metro: This São Paulo nightlife guide recommends the metro for all central venues. SP Metro runs its full weekday schedule on Wednesdays until midnight. Line 1-Blue connects São Bento and Sé (Casa de Francisca) to Consolação (Blue Note SP) in four stops. Line 4-Yellow connects Paulista to Faria Lima (Pinheiros / Ó do Borogodó) in one stop. Line 5-Lilac to Eucaliptos for Bourbon Street in Moema. Line 3-Red and Line 4-Yellow serve República for Bar Brahma. Bilhete Único card accepted; NFC payments on newer turnstiles.

Weather: Drizzle tonight — around 21°C with light rain. A 60% chance of rain through the evening. Carry an umbrella, particularly for the walk between metro stations and venues. All five main venues tonight are sheltered indoor spaces. Thursday eases slightly to 21°C with 65% rain — the week improves from Friday. The weekend outlook is stronger: 25°C Saturday, 28°C Sunday, with lower rain probability.

Ride-hailing: 99 and Uber operate normally. Wednesday surge is light — near-base fares throughout the evening. Paulista to Pinheiros is fifteen minutes. Centro (Casa de Francisca / Bar Brahma) to Paulista (Blue Note SP) is ten minutes. Moema (Bourbon Street) to Pinheiros (Ó do Borogodó) is twenty minutes.

Safety: São Paulo on Wednesday nights is lighter than the weekend but all venues listed are in well-trafficked areas. The Paulista corridor (Blue Note SP, MASP, Baixo Augusta) is well-lit and patrolled until late. Pinheiros’ main streets (Fradique Coutinho, Mourato Coelho) are active. Centro between Bar Brahma and Casa de Francisca is walkable but standard awareness applies after dark — keep valuables minimal and use ride-hailing for late departures from Sé.
