The flagship Friday night at D-Edge, Barra Funda’s globally recognised electronic music club and perennial DJ Mag Top 100 contender. Freak Chic has run every Friday since 2003 — it is one of the longest-running weekly nights in the São Paulo circuit, and tonight it is headlined by Adnan Sharif alongside CJ Jeff and Lucian. Adnan Sharif is a D-Edge resident with deep roots in both São Paulo and San Francisco: born in Brazil, raised in the USA, and a working DJ since 1995, his style moves across all strains of house — deep, tech, minimal — and he has played every major electronic venue in Brazil and internationally. Thalma de Freitas continues her Gira de SambaJazz residency in the Porão — one of the most compelling ongoing projects in the São Paulo live circuit. The Gira was conceived by Thalma as an experience for, in her own words, “ser feliz com o público”: a sonic ritual that weaves samba, jazz, canção popular brasileira, and references drawn from Afro-Brazilian ancestral traditions. The set is built as a continuous, integrated work rather than a setlist — the band plays under a single musical arc that invites the body into the room and holds it there. Tonight’s band brings together Fábio Leandro on keyboards and piano, Vanessa Ferreira on acoustic bass, Helô Ferreira on violão, and Vitor Cabral on percussion and drums — all arrangements created collectively under Thalma’s curation. Multi-instrumentalist Maurício Pazz opens the night at 21h30. The Porão of Casa de Francisca, at R. Quintino Bocaiúva, 22, Sé, is a standing-room space in the basement of the historic Palacete Teresa — intimate, brick-walled, and one of the best rooms in the city for this kind of music. The Salão presents “Ari Colares e A Canoa” — the newest project from the percussionist and composer Ari Colares, marking four decades of his artistic career. Known for his work across important Brazilian and international music projects, Colares now takes the helm as the author of a potent and singular original repertoire. In this concert, his compositions are drawn from an immersion in popular traditions — Candomblé, Reisado, Folia de Reis, Tambor de Crioula — and rendered in an instrumental language that these rhythmic references rarely receive with comparable depth or reverence. Joining him on the night is violinista Ricardo Herz, one of the most versatile and rigorously trained musicians in the São Paulo circuit, known for his ability to move between jazz, choro, and MPB without losing the internal logic of any of them. The Salão — the main seated room of Casa de Francisca — holds the concert in its most focused format: stage-lit, quiet before the first note, and acoustically suited to this kind of music. In the Sala B, Ju Strassacapa — songwriter, vocalist, percussionist, and co-author of “Triste, louca ou má” with Francisco, el hombre — presents a solo show honouring that song’s decade on the road. The performance is built as a celebration of a “troca de pele”: the song, now rearranged for a stripped duo of guitarra e voz, is presented closest to its compositional bone, alongside original material, rearranged earlier work, and tributes to the artists who have shaped her voice. The show is described as intimate, despida, feminista irreverente, and the full set integrates all the identities she has inhabited since her LAZÚLI solo era through to this current, undivided moment. With special guest Ellen Oléria — one of the most striking voices in contemporary Brazilian music, known for her power and political clarity — the Sala B will be one of the most charged rooms in the city tonight. The Ó do Borogodó — founded in 2001 by siblings Leonardo and Stefânia Gola Piacentini in a Pinheiros lot behind a cemetery — is São Paulo‘s most awarded and most-loved samba and choro house, having resisted a decade of real-estate pressure to remain at R. Horácio Lane, 21. The format is simple: musicians take turns on the house stage from Wednesday through Saturday, the audience ranges from veteran sambistas to casually dressed first-timers, the chope is cold, the caipirinhas are strong, and the kitchen produces sardine sandwiches and carne-seca alongside the usual boteco menu. Friday nights run from 22h to 3h — earlier than weekend bars, but the crowd is dense from opening. No advance ticket is required; arrive before 23h if you want a table.
