01
Tonight’s Vibe Menu
Thursday is the penultimate night of the Semana da Mulher and one of the strongest of the week. In Lapa, Carioca da Gema presents Dani Coimbra — doors open at 7:30 pm, show at 9 pm, and the complimentary “Aurea Martins” cocktail still flowing for women in the house. Down the street, Beco do Rato opens its courtyard from 7 pm and Nova Capela keeps the kitchen running until 1 am. In Copacabana, Blue Note Rio delivers the most powerful double bill of the week: Juliane Gamboa presents JAZZWOMAN at 8 pm — her debut album on Biscoito Fino, a celebration of Black womanhood in jazz, with tracks including “Transeunte”, “Eu Sou Mulher”, “20 Anos Blues”, “Solitude”, and “Herança”. Her third appearance at the Blue Note sold out on both previous nights. In the late set, Tamara Salles presents “Elas Cantam Soul — O Poder da Voz Feminina”, tracing a lineage from Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone to Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill. Tickets for both via Eventim. Partly sunny, 28°C, only 15% chance of rain tonight — the best weather of the week so far.

1Blue Note Rio — Juliane Gamboa · JAZZWOMAN
Jazz · MPB · Debut album

The standout show of Thursday. Juliane Gamboa presents JAZZWOMAN — her debut album on Biscoito Fino and an affirmation of Black womanhood in jazz and MPB. The set draws from a collection of songs that thread together the personal and the political: “Transeunte”, “Eu Sou Mulher”, “20 Anos Blues”, “Solitude”, and “Herança” are among the highlights. Gamboa has now performed three times at the Blue Note Rio, with both previous appearances selling out and earning standing ovations. Tonight’s show will feature special guests who have yet to be revealed. The Blue Note Rio, managed by Luiz Calainho at Av. Atlântica, 1910, is the first Blue Note franchise in the Southern Hemisphere and the only one in the world with a direct sea view. Tickets via Eventim — book in advance. Show at 8:00 pm.

2Carioca da Gema — Dani Coimbra
Samba · Semana da Mulher

The Carioca da Gema’s Semana da Mulher enters its third night with Dani Coimbra on the Av. Mem de Sá stage. The full week runs from Tuesday March 3 through Saturday March 7, with a different singer each night — Alana Valentte opened on Tuesday, Vanessa Ebons played Wednesday, and tonight Dani Coimbra takes the Thursday slot. The programme closes on Saturday with Ana Costa and Nilze Carvalho, two artists whose ties to the Carioca da Gema stretch back to the house’s founding. The complimentary “Aurea Martins” cocktail — maracujá, vodka, grenadine, água com gás — is still being offered as a courtesy to women in the audience throughout the week, in honour of one of the great interpreters of the samba tradition. On Thursday evenings, doors open at 7:30 pm and the show begins at 9 pm. Tables can be reserved via Fever; walk-ins welcome subject to availability.

Thu 7:30 pm–late
Av. Mem de Sá, 79 – Lapa
Tickets via Fever or door

3Blue Note Rio — Tamara Salles · Elas Cantam Soul
Soul · R&B · Jazz · Late set

The late set at Blue Note Rio belongs to Tamara Salles and her project “Elas Cantam Soul — O Poder da Voz Feminina”, a two-generation survey of the women who built soul music. The set spans from the jazz classicism of Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone, through the gospel-inflected soul of Aretha Franklin, to the contemporary voices of Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill. Tamara Salles is a Brazilian singer with strong credentials in the soul and R&B repertoire, and this project — built around the theme of the Mês das Mulheres — is one of the most fully realised of Blue Note Rio’s March programme. Tickets via Eventim; a separate ticket from the Juliane Gamboa show, though many in the audience are likely to stay for both sets.

Thu · Late set
Av. Atlântica, 1910 – Copacabana
Tickets via Eventim

4Beco do Rato — Midweek Samba
Samba de raiz

Founded in 2005 by Márcio Pacheco in a former beverage warehouse on Rua Joaquim Silva, the Beco do Rato is one of the Lapa circuit’s most consistent addresses for live samba — open seven days a week, with music every night. The house is divided into three areas: an indoor salão decorated with murals of samba legends including Pixinguinha and Noel Rosa, a covered terrace, and an open-air courtyard. Thursday is quieter than the weekend by Lapa’s standards, but the kitchen stays open, the chope flows, and the house band keeps the samba rolling. The menu runs from pastéis de angu to caipirinhas, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Three minutes on foot from Nova Capela, five from Carioca da Gema — an easy stop before or after either show in the neighbourhood.

Thu from 7 pm
R. Joaquim Silva, 11 – Lapa

5Nova Capela — Cabrito & Lapa Heritage
Boteco · Heritage

The 123-year-old Patrimônio Cultural Carioca on Av. Mem de Sá keeps its doors open on Thursday nights until 1 am. Nova Capela is a restaurant first and a bar second — the cabrito assado (roast kid) has been the house speciality for over a century, and the cavernous interior with its high ceilings and dark wood panelling makes it one of the most atmospheric dining rooms in Centro. The bar serves cold chope and the classics: caipirinhas, batidas, and a respectable wine list by the glass. On Thursday nights, the house is quiet enough for conversation but lively enough to feel like Lapa. Walk here from Carioca da Gema in three minutes — it’s the natural nightcap after an evening of samba in the neighbourhood.

Thu until 1 am

04
Suggested Route
One way to do it
1
7:30 pm — Carioca da Gema for Dani Coimbra
Uber or Metro (Cinelândia) to Lapa. Arrive at 7:30 pm when doors open to secure a table before the 9 pm show. Ask for the complimentary “Aurea Martins” cocktail at the bar if you’re a woman in the house. Av. Mem de Sá, 79.
2
9:30 pm — Nova Capela or Beco do Rato between shows
After Dani Coimbra’s opening, walk three minutes to Nova Capela (Av. Mem de Sá, 96) for cabrito and a cold Brahma, or five minutes to Beco do Rato (R. Joaquim Silva, 11) for samba in the courtyard. Both are no-cover options for the gap before Copacabana.
3
10:30 pm — Blue Note Rio for Juliane Gamboa or Tamara Salles
Uber from Lapa to Copacabana — 20 to 25 minutes. Juliane Gamboa’s show starts at 8 pm; those coming from Lapa will arrive for the final third of her set or the start of Tamara Salles. The two shows run back to back — book both via Eventim. Av. Atlântica, 1910.
4
Midnight — Copacabana boardwalk for the nightcap
After Tamara Salles, the boardwalk kiosks along Av. Atlântica stay open late. No cover, cold beer, and the Atlantic on a warm March night. Walk from the Blue Note Rio toward Posto 6 or back toward Leme. The best ending for a night of jazz and soul in Copacabana.

05
Still Going After 22h
Late night

Thursday night runs on two anchors at opposite ends of the city. In Lapa, Carioca da Gema keeps going as late as the crowd warrants after Dani Coimbra — on a strong Thursday, the house holds past midnight. Beco do Rato keeps the music in the courtyard until the last guest leaves, and Nova Capela closes its kitchen at 1 am. In Copacabana, the Blue Note Rio double bill — Juliane Gamboa at 8 pm followed by Tamara Salles — means the club runs well past midnight. The boardwalk kiosks along Av. Atlântica are the no-cover late-night fallback after Blue Note. For those already thinking ahead to Friday: Carioca da Gema presents Flavia Saolli, with a voz e violão set at 8:30 pm and the main show at 10 pm, as the Semana da Mulher enters its penultimate night before the Saturday finale with Ana Costa and Nilze Carvalho.

Plan B
More tonight

Rio Scenarium — R. do Lavradio, 20, Lapa. Live samba and gafieira across three floors of a nineteenth-century antiquarian’s house. Open Thursday from 7 pm to 1 am as part of the regular weekly schedule — check @rioscenarium for tonight’s specific programme. One of the Lapa circuit’s grandest rooms.

Marcos Sacramento & Zé Paulo Becker — Os Afro-Sambas, 60 Anos — Manouche, Rua Jardim Botânico, 983, Jardim Botânico. 9 pm. A tribute to the landmark 1966 album of Afro-sambas by Vinícius de Moraes and Baden Powell — sixty years of one of the most important records in Brazilian music, performed live. R$70 meia. Worth the Uber to Jardim Botânico.

Bip Bip — Sidewalk Roda — R. Almirante Gonçalves, 50, Copacabana. No stage, no PA, no cover. Musicians gather from around 8 pm for samba, choro, and bossa nova on the pavement. Thursday is not a regularly scheduled night — check @bipbipbar for confirmation. Bring cash and buy a beer from the tiny fridge.

Copacabana boardwalk kiosks — Av. Atlântica, from Posto 2 to Posto 6. Open late, no cover, cold beer, and the sound of the Atlantic. Thursday night with 28°C and calm skies means a strong sea breeze and manageable crowds. Pick any kiosk between Leme and the Forte de Copacabana.

Audio Rebel — R. Visconde de Silva, 55, Botafogo. The independent music hub since 2005. Rock, jazz, rap, experimental — ninety-seat capacity, air-conditioned, strong sound. Check @audiorebel for tonight’s listing. Shows typically close by 11 pm on weeknights.

Rua Dias Ferreira bar crawl — Leblon. The short strip between Av. Ataulfo de Paiva and R. General Venâncio Flores stays lively until midnight on Thursdays. Jobi (No. 44) for cold Brahma, Bracarense (No. 7, Rua José Linhares) for pastéis. Metro Antero de Quental.

Tomorrow: Flavia Saolli at Carioca da Gema & Daíra Canta Belchior at Blue Note Rio — Friday, March 6. Blue Note Rio brings Daíra — Canta Belchior: 80 Anos | 10 Anos de Amar e Mudar as Coisas, followed by Julia Landen in the late set.

07
Getting Around
Transport intel

Metro: This Rio de Janeiro nightlife guide recommends the metro for all Lapa venues. MetrôRio runs regular Thursday service. Lines 1 and 4 (Uruguai–Jardim Oceânico) and Line 2 (Pavuna–Botafogo) from 5 am to midnight. Key stations: Cinelândia or Carioca for Lapa venues (Carioca da Gema, Beco do Rato, Nova Capela). Cardeal Arcoverde or Siqueira Campos for Copacabana (Blue Note Rio, Bip Bip). For Leblon, use Antero de Quental (Line 4). For Jardim Botânico (Manouche), use General Osório and take a short Uber or taxi.

Weather: Partly sunny with temperatures around 28°C. Only 15% chance of rain tonight — the best conditions of the week. All featured venues are indoors except Bip Bip’s sidewalk and the boardwalk kiosks. Light jacket optional for late-night seafront.

Ride-hailing: 99 and Uber are standard. Thursday night surge is minimal. The Lapa-to-Copacabana journey runs 20 to 25 minutes by car — a sensible route for those catching Carioca da Gema and then Blue Note Rio in the same evening. For Lapa, set the destination to “Arcos da Lapa” or the specific venue address. Parking in Lapa is limited — the metro is faster and cheaper from Zona Sul.

Safety: Lapa’s main arteries (Mem de Sá, Lavradio, Joaquim Silva) are well-trafficked on Thursday evenings. Keep valuables minimal, avoid side streets after dark, and use ride-hailing for the return home. Copacabana beachfront is well-lit and patrolled. Standard awareness applies everywhere.
