Palmeiras Win 27th Paulistao as Abel Ferreira Becomes Club’s Most Decorated Manager
Palmeiras won the Campeonato Paulista for the 27th time on Sunday, beating Novorizontino 2-1 at the Jorjao in Novo Horizonte under torrential rain to complete a 3-1 aggregate victory. Murilo opened the scoring in the fifth minute, sweeping home a rebound after Andreas Pereira’s free kick struck the post and Marlon Freitas had his follow-up saved. The goal effectively killed the tie, leaving Novorizontino needing four to force penalties.
Matheus Bianqui equalised on the night at the 25th minute, capitalising after goalkeeper Carlos Miguel fumbled a cross, but Vitor Roque restored the lead in the 62nd minute. Joao Fonseca produced two memorable performances over the weekend at the BNP Paribas Open.
