Dilma Jane, Mother of Former President Dilma Rousseff, Dies in Belo Horizonte

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Dilma Jane, 95, the mother of former president Dilma Rousseff (PT), died at home in Belo Horizonte, this Saturday, July 13th.

The information was confirmed by councilman and president of the Workers’ Party in Minas Gerais, Arnaldo Godoy. According to him, the former president is out of the country, and he was unaware of her scheduled arrival.

Until the publication of this report, Godoy said he had no information regarding the location of the wake and funeral services.

Friends of Dilma Rousseff, such as Manuela D’Ávila, Eduardo Suplicy, and federal Deputy for Ceará, José Guimarães, lamented the death on social media.

Born in 1924, Dilma Jane was married to the Bulgarian immigrant Pétar Russév who was an employee of the Mannesmann steel mill when Dilma Jane was a teacher.

The family settled in Belo Horizonte, and her father’s death prevented Dilma Rousseff from having her sweet fifteen society debut.
