Covid-19: Brazil Registers Lowest Seven-day Average of Deaths Since May

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The rolling average of Covid-19 deaths, which records the fluctuations of the past seven days and removes distortions between high midweek and low weekend figures, reached its lowest level in the past 112 days.

Monday, September 7th, registered an average of 784 deaths every 24 hours by the novel coronavirus. For the first time since May 19th, the figure was lower than 800 deaths on average. The rate had not been this low since May 18th, when the rolling average stood at 749 deaths.

According to the consortium of media outlets comprising Estadão, G1, O Globo, Extra, Folha, and UOL, 9,992 new cases and 315 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, according to the survey conducted on Monday with the state Health Secretariats.

In total, there are 127,001 recorded deaths and 4,147,598 infections in Brazil. According to the Ministry of Health’s most recent balance, this Monday at 6:30 PM, 3,355,564 people have recovered from the coronavirus throughout the country and another 665,270 cases are under follow-up.

The State of São Paulo recorded 1,608 new cases and 24 deaths, reaching a total of 857,330 infections and 31,377 deaths. The state of Rio de Janeiro recorded 25 Covid-19 deaths and 2,218 new cases of the disease in 24 hours, according to a bulletin released on Monday afternoon by the state Health Secretariat. To date, 16,593 people have died from the coronavirus in the state of Rio de Janeiro, which registers 233,052 cases.
