RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The first batch of the Russian vaccine, baptised Sputnik V, will be made available to the country’s population, assured the Russian Ministry of Health, according to TASS news agency. The vaccine has passed quality control tests and will soon be distributed throughout the country.
“The first lot of the vaccine to prevent infection by the novel coronavirus, Gam-Covid-Vac (Sputnik V) developed by the Gamaleya Epidemiology and Microbiology Research Institute, passed the required quality tests in the Roszdravnadzor laboratories (the federal health care surveillance service) and was produced for the civilian population,” said the Russian Ministry of Health.
“The first lot of vaccines is expected to be distributed in the near future,” he added.
Earlier, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko stressed that vaccine distribution will prioritize risk groups such as doctors and teachers.
On August 11th, Russia became the first country to register a vaccine against the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
