Brazil’s August Job Recovery Best in Nine Years, Minister Guedes Says Country ‘Back on Track’

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The opening of formal jobs at its best level for the month of August since 2010 is an indication that the Brazilian economy is “back on track” after the worst stage of the Covid-19 pandemic. So says the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes.

On Wednesday, September 30th, Paulo Guedes took part in a press conference to explain the results of the August CAGED (General Register of Employed and Unemployed), which recorded the net opening of 249,388 formal positions.

For the Minister, the fact that all economic sectors generated jobs last month shows that the economic rebound is expanding.

“We are announcing the largest job opening [for the month of August] since August 2010,” he celebrated.

Guedes reiterated projections presented in recent months by the government that pointed out that Brazil would do better than other countries in the post-pandemic. “We had said that we expected a V recovery. This is what is currently occurring,” he said. “We said we were going to surprise the world,” he added.

The Minister commented on the results achieved by industry in the past two months, which has driven job creation. “We are going to reindustrialize Brazil,” he said. “We are getting back on track,” he concluded.
