Brazil’s Federal District Civil Police says 170 people have been arrested following invasions

The Civil Police of the Federal District (PDCF) reported this Sunday night (Jan. 8) that it had arrested 170 people following the invasions of Congress, the Planalto Palace, and the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

“There are already 170 people arrested in today’s operation. The police procedures are being finalized by the units of the Specialized Police Department (DPE) of the PCDF. All are suspected of participating in criminal acts committed against the headquarters of the Powers of the Republic,” said the corporation on Twitter.

The PCDF also reported on Twitter that several teams are on standby to meet the flagrant situations arising from arresting those suspected of committing criminal acts on the Esplanade of Ministries.

In a war scenario, there was destruction in the three buildings, with broken glass, furniture, and appliances damaged.

After the attacks, the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, decreed federal intervention in the public security of the Federal District.

Earlier, the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), apologized to the heads of the Three Branches, classified the acts as “unacceptable,” and promised to investigate responsibilities. With information from Agência Brasil.
