Brazil elections 2022: Lula da Silva has 35% and Bolsonaro 47% of the evangelical vote -PoderData, July 3-5

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A PoderData survey conducted from July 3 to 5 shows that Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers’ Party – PT) has 35% of the votes among those who say they identify themselves as evangelicals.

The rate varied seven percentage points upwards in 15 days, at the limit of the margin of error (3.5 p.p., when only evangelicals are considered).

Jair Bolsonaro (Liberal Party – PL) is still the favorite in this segment, with 47% of voting intentions. The other pre-candidates add up to 9%, while 7% say they don’t know, and 2% intend to vote blank or annul the vote.

Among Catholics, the scenario is inverted: Lula da Silva has 44% against Bolsonaro’s 37%. Two weeks ago, Bolsonaro had 32%, and Da Silva, 48%.

The survey’s margin of error is higher when only a subgroup of the population is considered – as fewer people are considered, the precision is lower. In the case of evangelicals, the margin is 3.5 percentage points, with Catholics, 2.6 points.

To arrive at these results, PoderData crossed the data from the questions “If the election were today, which of the candidates I will mention in alphabetical order would you vote for?” and “Which religion do you most identify with?

PoderData collected the data from July 3 to 5, 2022. The margin of error is two percentage points.
