WhatsApp Launches First International Brand Campaign in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – WhatsApp started yesterday, February 13th, its first brand campaign made in Brazil and for Brazil, where it shows the platform‘s ability to indirectly help solve some major issue. Even though Brazil is not the App’s largest market, it was chosen for the company’s first advertising campaign.

“Brazil is one of the main markets for the company worldwide, so we decided to launch the campaign here and honor the solidarity of Brazilians inspired by one of the country’s most cherished traditions,” says Taciana Lopes, Consumer Marketing leader for Facebook Brazil.

The one-minute video shows the story of the rivalry between two associations, which was inspired by a real event, with São Paulo’s Independente Tricolor, which burned down last October and was helped by rival schools to rebuild its structure – including costumes and floats.

The commercial will be shown on Facebook and Instagram (not YouTube), in addition to open and pay-TV and movie theaters.

While the first production is taking place in Brazil, WhatsApp says it is producing different versions in other countries such as Mexico, Germany, India (the largest WhatsApp market in the world), and the United States, with some of them producing the ads in cooperation with two or more.
